Plantar Fasciitis

This is a condition that not many people think chiropractors treat. Plantar Fasciitis usually presents as a very painful heel or foot especially the first steps in the morning. It can get so bad that you walk like an "old" man (or woman) and every step is agony. If you have it or know someone who does this next paragraph may sound familiar.

The problem can take a long time to develop. At first your pain is in the heel and painful only in the morning and after a few steps it goes away. But time goes by and it gets worse. It's every morning and then it's every step. It's still worse in the morning but is doesn't go completely away. You start thinking if you will ever be pain free. Will you walk like you're 90-years-old for the rest of your life?

You may ask why I treat this condition. After all, a Podiatrist, (foot doctor) would be where you would most likely go. The reason is because I had Plantar Fasciitis and know first-hand how miserable your life can be when it is at its worst. I suffered for over 8 years with very painful feet. First one heel and then both. I did the usual steps to fix the problem. After all, I'm a doctor, I will treat myself. I wore foot orthotics which helped temporarily but didn't fix it. I also stretched the foot but that only helped a little and only for a short time. I got cortisone shots into the heel which are very painful and helped temporarily. The podiatrist may tell you that if the cortisone shots don't work then surgery can be done. But I knew surgery was not a solution from my perspective. There is a reason for a plantar fascia in the foot and cutting, I was sure, was not the answer. So I suffered until I found the solution by chance.

I was at a seminar in California learning about x-ray interpretation when the instructor said, "By the way, I have a treatment for Plantar Fasciitis that works. Does anyone have Plantar Fasciitis?" I of course raised my hand. The doctor said, "I need someone who has had it for a long time." I started waving my hand back and forth. He saw me and while looking at me said, "This will hurt so I need someone who has it real bad." I stood up and said "I really doubt you can hurt it more than it is now."

Today I have absolutely no pain in either foot. I owe that doctor a lot for giving me my life back. I would like to do the same for you!

So what is the answer? The answer is to fully stretch the plantar fascia and remove the adhesions in the foot so that you can heal completely. Also support the foot with orthotics BUT not expensive custom orthotics that make other doctors rich. You need only soft orthotics that fully support your arches.

Stretching the plantar fascia is painful, but not as painful as waking up every morning hobbling around wondering if I will ever walk without pain.
